New heights!

What an exciting start to our scaffolding tours! Open for the second day today, visitors have embraced the idea of getting up close and personal with the stonework.

It really is a once in a life time opportunity to get this close to the craftsmanship involved in the Masterplan. On my first trip up on the roof I was amazed at the amount of detail in the stone work considering from the ground you can’t even see it. There are stags’ heads with eyes etched out perfectly and serpents with full sets of teeth.

The guides are really enjoying showing visitors around and love pointing out the beautiful views from the Emperor Fountain to the Cascade; it really is stunning.

We are looking forward to welcoming all our visitors up to take a look!

We went up onto the scaffolding today - and it was definitely the highlight of our day at Chatsworth. The guide took us safely up to the viewing platform and gave us loads of information both on the restoration project and on the various garden features that were visible from the top. I have visited the gardens so many times but he was a mine of information on things I didn't know. The stonework is well worth a close inspection and we were so pleased that we made the effort. Thank you !! J Coulter
