Preparing for Florabundance 6-10 May

As 6 May speedily approaches, it is not just the flowers for the Royal wedding which are being prepared, planned and arranged; Chatsworth too will shortly be bursting into a colourful mixture of ‘Tulips & Tropical’. I am now busy finalising all the thousands of different flowers which will compose this year’s Florabundance displays in the house. Exotics like Strelitzia, Heliconia and Anthuriums are being ordered from far flung countries. Twenty boxes of floral foam are ready to be pre soaked and black flower buckets by the hundred are on standby, ready to be filled with magnificent blooms, both commercial and home grown, from the Estate at Chatsworth. Military precision and a year’s planning combine to enable the rooms to be filled with enormous flower arrangements, reflective of their surroundings.

The unusual hot weather has really speeded all the flowers along, and we will be challenged by having to re-select some of the spring flowers, because they have already flowered and gone over. Other options will be selected and floral displays will be designed to accommodate alternative blooms. One thing for sure is that Chatsworth will be full of floral exuberance with tulips and tropical flowers.

Also, why not join me in the theatre to learn more about the stunning displays and watch as I create a series of floral arrangements in one of the floral demonstrations which will be held on the 7, 8, 9 May at 11am and 2.30pm. Practical advice, top tips and stunning flowers will inform and captivate you throughout these 80 minute demonstrations.
